Random!

I’ve randomly decided to go Scuba Diving! I’ll be going tomorrow and I’m really excited about it. It did cost quite a bit but its real cheap for Diving. The lesson I’m taking is called Discover from a place called Viking. We’ll see where this goes and if I like it, I’ll keep on going! I really don’t want to leave but tomorrow I’m leaving Phi Phi to go to Railay Beach which I hear is the best beach in Thailand.

Koh Phi Phi!

Just arrived at Koh Phi Phi and made a new friend (Laura) on my way there. We basically just chilled during the day along the beaches. Phi Phi is beautiful. Chilled out environment but has a bit of a nightlife if you want to party. There are no roads on the island and everything is within walking distance. The water is as clear as it can be and the weather is fantastic. I’ve gotten really dark since I started SE Asia so my skin has gotten use to the sun by now. The scenery is calming as you can just lay in the beach for hours with time seeming like its standing still. Kata beach was great but Koh Phi Phi is just on a whole different level of beauty. At night we went out to a random club playing mostly commercial tracks. It’s low season so the island isn’t as busy but honestly I like it this way. After the club (and like 2 buckets @_@), went on over to the beach side and a whole new window opened. Beach parties everywhere just pumping out more music then you can handle. Fire shows and games were really entertaining. At one point they had a big ring of fire in which you can jump through like they do in a circus. Everyone’s a drunk mess so you can imagine the level of stupidity going on with fire. Many people would miss the ring and hit the fire part burning themselves. Funny though lol. Then you got fire jump ropes, fire limbo, fire shows, and other crazy stunts and you can attempt. Many buckets later, it’s like 5am. Buckets of alcohol just look ridiculous and yet somehow it makes sense in SE Asia. Having a bucket in the states would just you the craziest looks wouldn’t it lol.

Kata Beach is beautiful

So now I’m all caught up with my blog. What was that like 10 entries at once? Hopefully I can update this more frequently instead of having to write a weeks worth.

Went from Patong Beach to Kata Beach in Phuket and I’m glad I made the decision to go to this beach. Beautiful beach and just what I imagined it to be. Crystal clear warm water with such a perfect scenery around it. Kata is nearly deserted with only one main road with most of the guest houses, shops, and restaurants. It could be because of the low season but regardless there isn’t much around here which makes this beach that much better to chill out. I didn’t really like Patong all that much even if it’s the most “popular” beach in Phuket. The congestion and how touristy it was wasn’t what I was looking for coming to Phuket.

I rented out a Jetski for 1500Baht 30minutes(a bit pricey I thought but it’s the standard price and wouldn’t bargain it). Flooring it to its max catching a wave way bigger then the Jetski itself was heart racing. Each time I’d be looking for the next big wave nearly falling off a few times and somehow still staying on. That Jetski had some serious force to it. Drove pretty far outside the beach area and over looked the entire Kata Beach with its blue water, blue sky, and mountains surrounding the entire beach.. Paradise! Tomorrow I hope to make it to Ko Phi Phi.

Since there’s no hostels here, I’ve been staying in budget hotels. I’m not a big fan of hotels unless I’m with people. No chance in meeting people at a hotel. Perhaps I need this alone time though to just relax a bit.

Ah something I just want to write down for no reason. Nightlife Vibe and Art of Backpacking has become more then a fulltime job at this point. NLV is growing faster then I could possibly keep up with but thanks to the whole team were moving forward every day. AOB is just as hard to keep up with as it’s only Teresa and I writing for the site. I’m pretty confident in saying that these two sites are going to have a good future. My heart and soul are on these two sites and I won’t be stopping. And that goes for the “competition” we have now from NLV. Believe me when I tell you that were thinking BIG things so copy all of NLV if you want but at some point you won’t be able to catch up. As another note.. It’s all about the community, not the features.

My Route So Far

Right now I’m in Phuket, Thailand. Been traveling for 2 months and 14 days and still going strong. My bank statement says for May and June that I’m averaging $1,000USD a month which is right where I want it. July I’ve spent more since arriving in Thailand but we’ll know for sure how much on my next statement.

Here’s where I’ve been

Travel Route Map

If you go to my Maps section, you’ll see that my original route is pretty different from what I actually took. For one I’ve skipped India and Nepal which I’m pissed about. The flights were too much from China and so I continued to travel by land throughout Asia. I’ve bought a flight ticket from Phuket to Malaysia on my last day I’m allowed in Thailand and since I’ve prebooked it through AirAsia, it was cheap (900 Baht). After traveling around Malaysia, I intend to go to Singapore. From Singapore its very open. I’ve thought about going to India from there but it seems way too expensive and from India I’d have to figure out how to get to Australia for cheap (which is near impossible considering its distance). Oh the hard life of a backpacker figuring out which country to go to next…

How do I feel 2 months and 14 days later? Travel has become more then just a holiday or vacation to me. It’s a lifestyle. I dont really miss being in a house but what I do miss is my family and friends. I’m not sure if I’ve changed or not but I do have more information in my brain and perhaps now I’ll be taking a new direction in life because of what I’ve seen, done, and been through. Can’t imagine life without travel at this point. All the stories and tales travelers tell you makes you want to go to every destination possible. Every new place I get to I always wonder if there’s something even better out there and it just keeps me moving. Will there be a bigger waterfall? A bigger city? A bigger mountain to climb? I’m pretty sure there is and I’m going there.
