My Route So Far

July 27, 2009

Right now I’m in Phuket, Thailand. Been traveling for 2 months and 14 days and still going strong. My bank statement says for May and June that I’m averaging $1,000USD a month which is right where I want it. July I’ve spent more since arriving in Thailand but we’ll know for sure how much on my next statement.

Here’s where I’ve been

Travel Route Map

If you go to my Maps section, you’ll see that my original route is pretty different from what I actually took. For one I’ve skipped India and Nepal which I’m pissed about. The flights were too much from China and so I continued to travel by land throughout Asia. I’ve bought a flight ticket from Phuket to Malaysia on my last day I’m allowed in Thailand and since I’ve prebooked it through AirAsia, it was cheap (900 Baht). After traveling around Malaysia, I intend to go to Singapore. From Singapore its very open. I’ve thought about going to India from there but it seems way too expensive and from India I’d have to figure out how to get to Australia for cheap (which is near impossible considering its distance). Oh the hard life of a backpacker figuring out which country to go to next…

How do I feel 2 months and 14 days later? Travel has become more then just a holiday or vacation to me. It’s a lifestyle. I dont really miss being in a house but what I do miss is my family and friends. I’m not sure if I’ve changed or not but I do have more information in my brain and perhaps now I’ll be taking a new direction in life because of what I’ve seen, done, and been through. Can’t imagine life without travel at this point. All the stories and tales travelers tell you makes you want to go to every destination possible. Every new place I get to I always wonder if there’s something even better out there and it just keeps me moving. Will there be a bigger waterfall? A bigger city? A bigger mountain to climb? I’m pretty sure there is and I’m going there.

Air Asia fly to Perth, Western Australia for about $70 one way! About $100 to Melbourne. Air Asia also fly to Trichy in southern India pretty cheap. Tiger airways fly to Chennai and Bangalore from Singapore.
